A survey by YouGov, a market research company, has found that Italian food is the most popular cuisine in the world. Over 99 percent of Italians love their own food (Love your own!), and over 90 percent of Spaniards, French, Swedes and Brits favour this cuisine over any other in the world.

Surprisingly (or not?), both Filipinos and Australians also cited Italian food as their favorite, this based on a result of an overwhelming 90 per cent of respondents from the Philippines and Australia giving the pizzas and the pasta a thumbs up.

Coming in second is Chinese food, and on third, Japanese.

YouGov hails itself as “home for public opinion”. According to its website, “YouGov continuously collects opinions from across the world. Whether it’s what people think about brands, politics, current affairs, or the things you talk about with your friends, we have data on it.”

Fusion of Filipino and Italian cuisine

The popularity and ease of cooking Italian food has inspired many Filipino chefs and ordinary cooks to give pastas and pizzas a local twist.

Using Pinoy ingredients, ingenious cooks have created Italian-inspired Filipino food. Take for instance the taro leaves. Have you tasted a laing pizza and a laing pasta? If not, give it a try.
